Lutherans Concerned/North America becomes ReconcilingWorks
Indeed, reconciling does work! That's one of the reasons ReconcilingWorks is the new name for Lutherans Concerned/North America. On June 12, 2012, we officially became ReconcilingWorks in order to better reflect the mission, values and goals of our organization, our movement, of Lutheranism, and Christianity.
The name that served us so well from our founding has become increasingly less descriptive of the ministry we have developed across time from the courageous beginning of the founders in 1974, through the beginnings of the RIC program in 1983, on to the addition of faith-based community organizing and training, leading to policy change and the response to the emerging issues of today.
ReconcilingWorks as a name describes us on several levels. First, reconciling really does work. Secondly, like waterworks or millworks, reconciliation is what we do.
We are reconciling Lutherans, working for full participation of everyone, as the logo connotes reading from top to bottom instead of left to right.

ReconcilingWorks advocates for the full inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Lutherans in all aspects of the life of their Church and congregations. We provide a place of comfort and safety. We reach out to teach that Christ's message, the Gospel, is for everyone equally. We call for the blessing of committed and covenanted same-gender relationships, and for the ordination of those called to minister.

ReconcilingWorks believes that marriage matters. We believe marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other.
Marriage is about the mutual sharing of selves. It’s a way of saying “We are family.” Married couples and their families are committed to one another in all aspects of life—in all things physical, emotional, material, spiritual—so that we become, as Genesis puts it, “one flesh.”
As Lutherans, we believe that marriage is a vocation that strengthens couples, their families, and the community. It’s both a way for God to do God’s work in people’s lives . . . and a way for people to do God’s work in the world. It’s a way for married couples and their families to mirror, as best they can, God’s total love for the world.
