Washington, DC

Our host for Reconciling Works 2012 will be Washington, DC. Washington is filled with a veritable cornucopia of attractions, including:

Come early to explore all the possibilities that Washington has to offer. Stay late to enjoy the balmy summer weather.

Luther Place Memorial Church

Luther Place Memorial Church serves as the primary site for the Reconciling Works 2012 assembly. This church and its many members have a long history with peace and reconciliation. Following the Civil War, the church was built in 1873 as a memorial to peace and reconciliation. During the 1960s and 1970s the congregation frequently opened its doors to the ever-growing homeless community. In the 1970s, the congregation increased their care toward the homeless population by establishing N Street Village, a facility that houses, educates, and advocates for homeless women.

In 1979, Luther Place Memorial founded the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, a volunteer service organization that is well-known across the Lutheran circles today. The congregation continually responds to Christ’s call in seeking to reach out to the poor and marginalized in society. Having become a Reconciling in Christ Congregation in 2000, the congregation continues the very ministry of peace and reconciliation upon which it was founded.

Address: 1226 Vermont Ave. NW, Washington D.C. 20005

Reformation Lutheran Church

Reformation Lutheran Church, built on Capitol Hill, traces its origins to 1869. The congregation’s ministries and the professions of its members are deeply tied to our nation’s government, seeking to advocate for the rights of all people. Reformation Lutheran Church will serve as our host during the tail end of the assembly as we venture onto the hill to meet with our various legislators. It is from the hill that the Reconciling Works 2012 assembly will draw to a close in worship, sending participants forth to continue in the ministry of reconciliation.

Address: 212 East Capitol Street, Washington, D.C. 20003
