Their welcome statement reads:
“Holy Angels Evangelical Lutheran Parish is an evangelical catholic congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are a community of Christian believers gathered around the precious gifts, from God, of Word and Sacrament. Just as Jesus welcomed all people, especially those looked down upon and judged by others, we are a welcoming community that believes ALL people, especially those previously excluded or judged by the Church, have a place in the Church. We understand that God’s gifts of mercy, forgiveness, and love are extended to ALL of God’s people. We at Holy Angels are ever mindful of the time St. Paul reminded the Church at Rome (and us!) that “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God….” (Romans 3:23) Jesus sat at dinner on more than one occasion with “many tax collectors and sinners” and reminds us that “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I (Jesus) have come to call not the righteous but sinners.” (St. Mark 2: 15, 17) You are welcome here with us! + If you desire a relationship with Jesus Christ our savior, you are welcome here. † If you are of different skin color and heritage than we are, you are welcome here. † If you suffer from addictions to drugs or alcohol (whether you are recovering or not), you and your family are welcome here. † If you suffer from mental illness, you are welcome here. † If you are a woman or a child, you are welcome here, and you will not be harassed or abused. † If you want to bring children to worship, you are welcome here. † If you are single by choice, by divorce, or through the death of a spouse, you are welcome here. † If you are promiscuous, have had an abortion, or have fathered or mothered children and taken no responsibility for them, you are welcome here. † If you are a gossip, a cheat, or a liar, you and your family are welcome here. † If you are disobedient to your parents or have family problems, you are welcome here. † If you are divorced, you are welcome here. † If you are straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, you and your family are welcome here. † If you are young or old, rich or poor, whole or broken, you are welcome here. † If you are a sinner like us, you are welcome here. No one who wishes to receive the Sacraments of the Church will ever be denied for any reason in this congregation. When we say “All are welcome”, we mean it!!”
