Help ReconcilingWorks welcome a new Reconciling in Christ (RIC) community:
Becoming Oswego in Oswego, Illinois.
Their welcome statement reads:
“At Becoming, we live out our faith, where all people can find meaningful and joyful lives.
We believe in the uniqueness of every individual. We accompany people as they discover and embody their ideal, best selves. We believe diversity is by God’s design. God’s kin-dom isn’t homogeneous. It is beautifully eclectic. We celebrate difference because we acknowledge that a multicultural, multi-generational, and multi-dimensional congregation makes us live closer to how God created us to be in a full/whole community. Becoming is committed to the radical pursuit of love and inclusiveness.
As a faith community, we continually discern and participate in the life of the Holy Spirit, which leads us to confront what disrupts and interrupts the ways of this world that divide us. We affirm the sacredness of all who have experienced exclusion because of race, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, AND the sacredness of those who wrestle with addiction, mental health, incarceration, socioeconomic status, or any other injustice or inequality that separates us.
Because of these affirmations, at Becoming, the doors are wide open to ALL who are seeking full acceptance through God, especially our LGBTQIA+ siblings, people of all color, and indigenous brothers & sisters. We reject the boundaries humans, systems, and institutions used to separate us from our neighbors, and the interpretation of Scripture that condemns the inclusive, affirming vision of God’s Kin-dom that loves without exception. Becoming specifically rejects white supremacy, racism, white nationalism, homophobia, misogyny, and any other “ism” that subjects one person against and/or above another.
Becoming, through our Christian faith, commitments, values, and beliefs, affirms that all of humanity is made in God’s image, and we are called to serve in any capacity to uplift our community, building a blueprint of what the church is called to be.“
