Their welcome statement reads:
“We, the members of Holy Counselor Lutheran Church in Vernon Township, NJ, joyfully affirm that every person is a child of God, and all are welcomed into a community united by the grace, love, and forgiveness we know in Jesus Christ.
In all that we say and do, and especially in our celebration of Holy Communion, we proclaim God’s wide and inclusive welcome to all, especially those who have known the pain of exclusion, discrimination, or racism in church or society. We recognize that we are called to be one body with many members, and because all are necessary for the health and well-being of the body, we strive for equity for all in our community.
2 Corinthians 5:18 says, “All this is from God who reconciled us, through Christ,
and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.”We proclaim that we are a Reconciled in Christ congregation and pledge to provide a loving welcome to all who seek to follow Jesus in love, regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, ethnicity, marital status, physical or mental ability, family configuration, political affiliation, or economic circumstances.
