Help ReconcilingWorks welcome a new Reconciling in Christ (RIC) community:
Zion Lutheran Church in Akron, Pennsylvania.
Their welcome statement reads:
“We are a Welcoming and Inclusive Church. We believe that all people of every race, gender identity, sexual orientation, place of origin, health/illness experience, physical and mental ability, education, and economic situation are beloved children of God, and are worthy of love, dignity, and respect.
We are committed to creating a place of belonging, wellbeing, and full inclusion for people who have been historically excluded and marginalized by church and society. We take particular care to welcome and affirm our neighbors who identify as a part of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and/or queer community. (LGBTQ+) We welcome and honor black, indigenous, and/or people of color, (BIPoC) who have experienced racism and historical oppression, and who continue to offer gifts of culture, history, creativity, and resilience. We strive for racial justice by educating, organizing, and advocating for structural and systemic change.
We believe that all creation belongs to God and reflects God’s glory and goodness. We love the natural world and strive to protect every member of the earth community from ecological harm. We believe Jesus demonstrated what God’s liberating justice looked like, in humble service for all creation. We believe he died standing for truth, freedom, and universal love. We practice this gospel of inclusion, service, and public witness.“
