💛💜 Intersex Awareness Day | Wonderfully Made. Fully Beloved.

Today, on Intersex Awareness Day, we celebrate intersex people, honor their stories, and reaffirm that every person is wonderfully made in the image of God.

What does it mean to be intersex?

Intersex is an umbrella term for people born with sex characteristics—including chromosomes, hormones, reproductive anatomy, or genitals—that do not fit typical definitions of male or female bodies.

Intersex variations are a natural part of human diversity. Being intersex is not the same as being transgender or nonbinary, although a person can be both. Intersex people have diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, just like everyone else.

For too long, intersex people have experienced silence, stigma, and medical interventions performed without their informed consent. Intersex Awareness Day invites us to listen, learn, and advocate for bodily autonomy, dignity, and the right of every person to make informed decisions about their own body.

As people of faith, how can we put love into action?

  1. Listen to and amplify intersex voices and stories.
  2. Learn about intersex experiences and challenge harmful assumptions about sex and gender.
  3. Advocate for bodily autonomy, informed consent, and compassionate healthcare.
  4. Create faith communities where intersex people are welcomed, included, celebrated, and empowered to flourish.

At ReconcilingWorks, we believe God’s creation is beautifully diverse. No one needs to change their body, hide their story, or fit into someone else’s expectations to be worthy of love, dignity, and belonging.

To our intersex siblings: You are wonderfully made. You are fully beloved. You belong. Today and every day. 💛💜
