ReconcilingWorks staff to attend 21st International HIV/AIDS Conference

“Globally, the AIDS pandemic is a human crisis of unprecedented scope.” So goes the introduction to the ELCA Strategy on HIV and AIDS. The strategy calls for a coalition of faith communities and organizations to be “active in open and moral deliberation” about how to respond locally, nationally and globally to this pandemic. On July 15-23 I will travel with the ELCA Lutheran Office of World Relation, the ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission, the ELCA Strategy on HIV/AIDS and the Lutheran World Federation to Durban, South Africa to attend the 21st International HIV/AIDS Conference: www.aids2016.org. I am able to embark on this journey due to a scholarship I have received through the ELCA Strategy on HIV/AIDS.

Within the last 10 years the most effected population has been women of color. As a result of this conference ReconcilingWorks will work to provide resources and space within Lutheran communities who are Reconciling in Christ (RIC) to discuss how the HIV/AIDS pandemic has/may effected their community and what specific steps can be taken to ensure those effected are cared for.

The Reconciling in Christ program continues to deepen and expand as this organization works to achieve this through intersectional work of LGBTQ and racial justice and increasing awareness about HIV/AIDS.Your call as members and supporters of ReconcilingWorks, is to ensure LGBTQ people are welcomed, included and celebrated in the Lutheran church. I hope that I can enter the prayers of your faith community and of your personal life to ask for my safe travel and return. If you have a specific petition you’d like me to hear, please just reply to this email message.
