LGBTQIA+ Icon: Alice Nkom

LGBTQIA+ Icon Alice Nkom (Cameroonian lawyer and human rights activist)

“Somebody has to do this work. I am black, I am a woman, and I am a lawyer, and I speak loud.”

“When you are doing something that is right, you just do it and take care… someone has to do this.”

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) month. This month is a time of celebration, but also recognition of those who have participated in the journey toward equality, justice, and the freedom to love without fear. Each day of this month we will be spotlighting one of the people who has taken a stand in the struggle toward inclusion and acceptance for all.
