LGBTQIA+ Icon: Edith Windsor

LGBTQIA+ Icon Edith Windsor, 1929-2017 (LGBTQ+ activist)

” Marriage is a magic word. And it is magic throughout the world. It has to do with our dignity as human beings to be who we are openly.”

“I never expected I’d be looking at a piece of paper that said Windsor versus the United States of America… it takes a lot of guts to stand up and let people know – people you’ve lied to much of your life – that not only are you a lesbian, but you’re a lesbian fighting the United States of America.”

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) month. This month is a time of celebration, but also recognition of those who have participated in the journey toward equality, justice, and the freedom to love without fear. Each day of this month we will be spotlighting one of the people who has taken a stand in the struggle toward inclusion and acceptance for all.
