LGBTQIA+ Icon Henry “Harry” Hay Jr., 1912-2002 (LGBTQ+ activist and labor organizer)

“I always say to people, ‘if you share my dream, why don’t we walk together?’ That’s my only organizing tool.”

“Give yourself permission to enjoy being gay. You do have to give yourself permission. You have been told you may not. Give yourself permission to be free.”

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) month. This month is a time of celebration, but also recognition of those who have participated in the journey toward equality, justice, and the freedom to love without fear. Each day of this month we will be spotlighting one of the people who has taken a stand in the struggle toward inclusion and acceptance for all.
