LGBTQIA+ Icon: Karla Jay

LGBTQIA+ Icon Karla Jay (LGBTQ+ activist, author, and professor)

“We thought, we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it”

“I told no one I went to college with that I was a lesbian, I never told anyone. I think that was what the 60’s were like for many of us – we grew up in silence and isolation.”

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) month. This month is a time of celebration, but also recognition of those who have participated in the journey toward equality, justice, and the freedom to love without fear. Each day of this month we will be spotlighting one of the people who has taken a stand in the struggle toward inclusion and acceptance for all.
