LGBTQIA+ Icon: Mathew Tyler Oakley

LGBTQIA+ Icon Mathew Tyler Oakley (YouTuber, LGBTQ+ activist, and author)

“This is why homophobia is a terrible evil: It disguises itself as a concern while it is inherently hate.”

“The only constant you have from point A, your birth to point B, your death is you. There is no point in changing who you are to appease others when they’re gonna leave your life. Love yourself because you’re the only one who’s stuck with yourself. Fall in love with who you are and if anybody wants to join in on that, more power to them.”

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) month. This month is a time of celebration, but also recognition of those who have participated in the journey toward equality, justice, and the freedom to love without fear. Each day of this month we will be spotlighting one of the people who has taken a stand in the struggle toward inclusion and acceptance for all.
