We recognize Reformation Day, remembering the moment in 1517 when Martin Luther shared his 95 Theses, challenging practices within the Church and helping spark the Protestant Reformation.
At the heart of the Reformation was a powerful reminder: God’s grace is a gift, freely given, not something we must earn. More than 500 years later, Reformation Day invites us to reflect on what it means to be a Church that is continually being reformed by the Holy Spirit.
For ReconcilingWorks, this is both a celebration and a call to action.
We give thanks for the LGBTQIA+ Lutherans, advocates, rostered leaders, congregations, and communities who have courageously called the Church to examine its practices, challenge exclusion, and more fully embody God’s abundant love.
Their faithful witness reminds us that the work of reformation is not finished.
- When we challenge systems that exclude, we participate in the ongoing work of reformation.
- When we listen to those who have been harmed by the Church, we make room for healing and transformation.
- When we work for racial equity and LGBTQIA+ justice, we put our faith into action.
- When we celebrate the gifts and leadership of people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions, we help the Church flourish.
- When we choose courage over complacency and love over fear, we open ourselves to the Spirit’s work among us.
The Reformation is not simply something we remember. It is an invitation to consider how God is calling us to grow, change, and act today.
May we be a Church willing to listen, courageous enough to change, and faithful enough to keep working toward a world where all God’s beloved can experience acceptance, full participation, and liberation.
Happy Reformation Day! May the Spirit continue to reform us, renew us, and inspire us to put God’s love into action. ❤️
